Keep your day job--if you have one, that is. You aren't funny and making a joke about a child who just died tragically is just plain ignorant.

Ironically, my day job is writing jokes. So I wonder if you mean it.

Apparently his son died of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER...

Joking about John Travolta's career nad celebrity is fine; joking about the death of any child is beyond immature and pathetic. And thinking that something as obivous as a reference to Staying Alive or Saturday Night Fever is at all clever is very lame.

No part of this joke insults the child or the family. It's just a play on words joke. And whether you guys think it's funny or not, the joke is getting 4s and 5s, cause people laugh when they read it. The joke is certainly not appropriate at a funeral, but this is a comedy site.

Barry, I respect your opinion and agree with you 100% that some people will be offended by this joke. However, judging by the ratings, the joke was well received by the majority. You cant not write a joke because you think some people will be offended, because everybody is different, and whether or not someone thinks a joke is offensive is relative to the world inside their head. When it comes to joke writing and censorship, the only thing the writer should consider is whether his own fans will be offended, because you cant avoid pissing some people off in the long run.

So you say your day job is writing jokes Mr. Mata?? I find that extremely hard to believe but I guess any schmuck can write a joke. The trick is getting people to actually laugh at it. If I were you I'd find another line of work--seriously.

Tahoerabbit,
I'm sorry you don't like the joke. Don't visit my page if you don't like what you're reading. While I appreciate the career advice, there is nothing you can say to change my mind about what I write. But I do know for a fact that you gave me at least 2 hits to my page, so THANK YOU. You've just paid my rent.

Barry Lee,
His son's death should be a private matter, but it was released to the news media for publicity - good or bad. It was on my TV all day as I'm trying to watch the news and while I felt bad at first, they mentioned his movies over and over until it became an infomercial for Mr. Travolta. Write the news outlets a letter/email instead of me about how to be respectful and not sensationalize a death.

I know Chris and Ricardo can do better than this. I understand your points, however getting a laugh at the expense of Mr.Travolta's son dying is irresponsible and disrespectful to his family. Yes, you have the right to joke about anything, but you also "should" consider your fellow human beings.

Hilarious! You whiners should get a life! Yea, it's disrespectful, but that is the point! That's what makes it funny! Who cares what Travolta thinks, like he is gonna see the joke or care. And he doesn't give a damn about you, so why do you care about him? He's a jackass anyway.

He was actually hit by grease lightning.

Let me explain why your joke is not funny: you are poking humor at a dead teenager, not John Travolta. I'm sure you'll try real hard to come back with a sharp retort, but I doubt you are up to the task.

Robin Sparks, you fail to realize that the whole Travolta family is part of this joke. It's about them as a whole, minus 1.

I love this thread... some days I feel like being a dick, so here we go... let me explain how this joke is funny. everybody is different... comedy is subjective... and the world is a lot bigger than your little head. Yes this kid is dead and it's a tragedy, but people die every day, and just cause his dad is famous, doesnt mean I should start grieving. When you start going to every funeral in your neighborhood, then you can talk.

I would like to point out to all that I have just heard that John Travolta is now resigning from his acting career. He is now becoming a plumber as a tribute to his son who died fitting in a bath.

These comments making a joke of a man losing his son is a sign that American society is in the gutter.
