Although the Obamas are the first to bring a Portuguese water puppy into the White House, they were not the first to consider it. Former President Bush once considered the same breed. Bush nixed the idea after deciding it wouldn’t be fair to the dog since he didn’t speak a word of Portuguese.

The first couple and their daughters have been going back and forth on possible names. Among the two Mrs. Obama mentioned — and nixed — were Frank and Moose. The last two pooches, Jenna and Barbara, left in January.

An unnamed source is also reporting that the Portuguese water dog Obama picked for the White House  owes back taxes for money won in three 2006 dog shows.

An unnamed source says that Bill Clinton may help Barack Obama choose a puppy for the White House.  This is a great idea:  Bill Clinton has always been good at picking dogs. 

Politico.com reports that despite promising his daughters a new pet, Barack Obama said he doesn’t want a “girly dog” in the White House.  Ironically, this was also the line he used to talk people out of voting for Hillary.

Michelle Obama announced that the family's first dog will arrive in April.  And so will a letter from House Republicans that says, "We love bipartisanship!  …. April Fool's!"

Barack Obama has already taught the dog to sit, beg, and bow. 

Provided the puppy proves he has paid all his back taxes, he will be officially accepted at the White House. 

To the suprise of nobody the first family has settled on the breed of dog they will bring into the white house.  It's a breed commonly used in fighting, and property protection, called an American Pit Biden. 

Despite several trips to the pound, no First Dog has been chosen. Obama explained to the kids that they cannot get a dog that stands up and grabs onto someone's leg.  Asked why, by Sasha, he replied, "We'll take that up at the next family briefing."

LIMA (Reuters) - Peruvians crazy about their national dog, a bald and often toothless breed popular among Incan kings, offered Monday to send a hypoallergenic puppy to the Obama family. 

Memo to the people of Peru:    If we wanted a bald, nearly toothless occupant in the White House, we would have elected McCain.
